Dark in dreams : Understanding dreams is not so difficult. In practice dream symbols translate into certain words within the english language. For instance a feeling of "Dark" in a dream may simply capture your feeling that "My friend was in a very pessimistic mood yesterday" and so the darkness may translate into the word "Pessimistic".of course, darkness in dreams may translate into more than one word or phrase such as "Unhappy", "Expecting the worst", "Suspicions", and "Suffering". try to think which of these themes relates to your feeling most right now. The full list of words relating to darkness in dreams appears below with an explanation of the symbolic connection.
Why are these key words linked to this symbol?- "Unhappy" (We have dark moods)
- "Expect the worst" (You are looking on the dark side)
- "Pessimistic" (Your thinking is on the dark side)
- "Ignorant" (You are in the dark)
- "Not accepted/misunderstood" (Light equals happy and comfortable whilst dark suggests discomfort of all kinds)
- "Bad/evil" (Light equals good and honest whilst dark is deceptive and bad)
- "Suspicions" (You think you are been kept in the dark)
- "A secret" (Keeping something hidden and out of sight)
- "Suffering" (Darkness means unhappiness and even suffering)
- "Not known" (You are in the dark)
- "Feeling out of place"
- "Worries" (You are feeling pessimistic and worry that something could turn out badly.)
- "Not making sense" (Light symbolises knowledge and darkness can suggest you do not understand something properly)
- "Unseen" (You are metaphorically in the dark)
- "Eye problems" (You simply cannot see something or have eye problems. Blind people just see darkness)
Now try to see how words in this list feature in your thoughts. Think of the things that you write down in a diary or tell a friend. Its likely that dreams translate into conscious thoughts that you are all too aware of - nowadays not many people believe in the unconscious mind. If any of the thoughts that you have seem to feature words on the list then its likely that the dream could link to that thought - it may even portray that exact thought process.
For instance, a darkness dream took place as the dreamer was particularly insecure about her boyfriend. So several of the key words and phrases were relevant in some way such as "Unhappy", "Expect the worst", "Pessimistic", "Suspicions", and "Worries". We choose the most relevant and then try to weave these into phrase which captures the dream meaning. In this case the best guess is "I can never feel confident about my boyfriend. I am always pessimistic and expect the worst".
Dreams can translate into very sophisticated thoughts. For instance a dream about a grey and dark building took place as the dreamer had been thinking about the unwelcoming start to her time at university. She felt that her religious beliefs were not accepted and misunderstood. So the dark dream captured her general feel about university and these were obviously darker thoughts. But on a deeper level the dream obviously tapped into the feelings that she was not welcome and misunderstood.
Now take this dream - "I am in some yard and I cannot see because of the dark. There is a dog and its running towards me. I cannot avoid it because its too dark". Actually the night before the dreamer had been worried about his eyesight. So really the dark was his dreams way of saying "I am scared of losing my sight" which is what effectively happens in the dream.
