- "I have lots of problems with my husband because he is living overseas. But I am confident that we can COPE WITH A CRISIS." (One "crisis" in real life may link to any crisis in life such as an earthquake.)

- "I have been thinking a lot about the ECONOMIC CRISIS which is affecting us. I think it will not personally affect me very much." (Do you feel as if the emotions are shaking just like in an earthquake. If so that is how the dream mind stores such feelings in the mind.)

- "I got into a very big ARGUMENT WITH MY BOYFRIEND. I have never seen him like that before. It really SHOCKED me." (Any argument is like an "earthquake" in an emotional sense)

- "My friend has CHANGED A LOT. He has suddenly become very politically conscious." (Earthquakes can symbolize ways in which feel as if the world has changed in totally shocking ways. So if someone has changed beyond belief then this could be a metaphor for their transformation)

- "My hay fever seemed to get better during all the CHAOS caused by building work in my home. I wonder if that was the cause and if I try to stay active it will help me overcome all the hay fever problems." (In this case an earthquake was symbol for ways in which a crisis like situation helped the dreamer cope better with a health condition)

Earthquakes in dreams: Understanding dreams is not so difficult. In practice dream symbols translate into certain words within the English language. For instance a "Drunk" dream may simply capture an everyday thought such as "I really did get very emotional yesterday". In that way your dream picks out one features of drinking - they often get very emotional and say things that they would not normally say.

Earthquake dreams - keywords
In practice earthquake dreams have several symbolic meanings. Just one of these applies in any dream. Try to see which one of these seems most relevant right now.
- "Sudden changes" (If an earthquake takes place then the face of the world has changed radically. Therefore an earthquake can represent major changes in your world.)
- "Major upheaval" (Has there been chaos in your life recently? If so the dream represents that major upheaval and captures some exact thought in connection with it. )
- "Crisis" (Has some crisis just occurred? If so your earthquake dream may simply your minds way of saying "That was a crisis". Your dream may link to some thoughts about that crisis or some emotion generated by it. It might just represent your assessment of what has just happened. Try to write down a quote - many dreams link to key quotes that pinpoint your feelings. Its just a matter of understanding the dream symbolism)
- "Loud noise" (Some earthquake dreams have been triggered by loud noises around the dreamer such as loud children. Such dreams represent the dreamer trying to make sense of these loud noises whilst asleep. The dreams have little meaning and simply represent the thought "What is that noise". Still, such dreams can be very interesting.)

Of course this list is not exhaustive. Do not forget that dream symbols can be very literal. If an earthquake has just occurred then the dream may represent some thoughts about a real earthquake.

Remember also that dreams can represent quite sophisticated thoughts. Take this dream about an earthquake "There was an earthquake. I tried to keep moving and stay alive. I was a soldier trying to stay disciplined." in real life the dreamer had just had his home life disrupted by some building work which turned his home upside down. However, he noticed that during this building work his chronic hay fever had got slightly better. He surmised that the major upheaval had helped him. Constant activity associated with this building work had maybe helped improve his hay fever. So he decided that if he tried to stay active as much as possible after the building work finished then this would help his hay fever. So the earthquake in the dream was a symbol for this building work which had been a major upheaval. The soldier was a symbol for discipline and keeping busy. So the dream dealt with all the themes linked to this quite sophisticated thought "I am sure the building work has helped my hay fever. So if I stay busy and disciplined, like I was during the building work, my hay fever should get better".
